DESCRIPTION

There is a reimagining process taking place in board rooms across the state as association leaders are considering what should be the expected contributions and results from their boards Traditional ideas about boards are being challenged as more leaders are asking tough questions about achieving organizational outcomes, member belongingness, association success, and community impact. This session will introduce an outcomes-based governance model and challenge participants to ask the critical questions that should be discussed in their board rooms now if they want to viewed as remarkable by their members, the industry and society.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Consider the kind of board their association currently has measured against the kind of board their association needs to be viewed as a remarkable organization.
  2. Question the balance between focus on board process and board results.
  3. Acknowledge that boards have “life cycles” that significantly impact board processes.
  4. Embrace that every board must operate from a “Picture of Success’ that it collectively aspires to achieve as a body.
  5. Evaluate a presented outcomes-based governance model and its applicability to their own association/organization.
  6. Agree to integrate an informal board assessment process into their 2024 governance strategy to begin remarkable conversations that will ultimately evolve their boards.
