DESCRIPTION

The association-to-member experience – how do we connect with members, make them feel valued, and serve a purpose in their professional lives? Learn about KCBA’s recent efforts to expand its membership to nontraditional groups previously excluded.  To do so, KCBA considered the following questions: Who do we serve, what limits have been placed on membership in the past (and why), and what changes would be necessary if new groups were permitted? We will consider several scenarios for expanding (i.e., within the confines of existing bylaws vs. bylaw amendments) and what other factors an association should examine before making membership changes.

After the presentation, we’ll break into small groups to discuss our own challenges and successes in cultivating membership and member relationships. We’ll then come back together as a full group to share the highlights of our discussions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify steps to grow membership by including nontraditional audiences.
  2. Participants will increase their range of options to adapt to the changing association-to-member relationship.
