The “Whack-A Mole” World of Board Governance: A Case Study Approach

Friday, 9:00 AM
Have you ever had one of those years where it seemed like each time one challenging board behavior or issue was resolved another governance task/problem popped up elsewhere? As Association Execs, we’ve experienced years where whacking multiple “moles” such as board ethics, legal, and the relationship between staff and volunteers seem like a never-ending task. This case-study driven session will explore a variety of scenarios with your peers on those multiple governance issues that keep popping up unexpectedly.

Steve has worked for more than 30 years for and with associations, universities and businesses in the areas of leadership, strategy, engagement, and membership. He brings a practical knowledge of leadership issues and executive management with past associations such as the National Association of Home Builders, Club Managers Association of America, and American Subcontractors Association where he most recently served as executive director. He is active in California Society of Association Executives (CalSAE) and American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) leadership serving on the Board of Directors; past Membership Committee Chair; past Professional Development Committee Chair (aka Purple Cow Posse); Southern California Regional Council; University leadership advisor; and volunteer staff pastor.
